Adaptation, innovation and efficiency in thermo-mechanical installations: A creative approach for sustainable architecture projects in Buenos Aires

In the dynamic world of architecture, sustainable construction has emerged as a standard par excellence in the face of the challenges implied by the 2030 Agenda proposed by the United Nations.

A few months ago we had the opportunity to work on the remodeling of the TGN offices in Buenos Aires, located in the Centro Empresarial Libertador, an exciting project because it is one of the most modern and outstanding buildings in the city. In this context, we want to share our vision and technical solutions applied to the air conditioning system, which cover comfort areas, control rooms and critical zones.

Our Creative and Technical Approach:
New Challenges, New Solutions: When faced with the need to integrate new spaces independently but coherently, we opted for an innovative approach. We implemented 18 additional VAV boxes to the existing installation, composed of an air conditioning system that uses variable air volume (VAV) boxes to control the amount of air and temperature in each specific area, providing precise and efficient control of the spaces. through a BMS (Building Management System) control system. This measure not only optimized energy efficiency, but also ensured adaptability to the constantly changing interior design.

24/7 Control Room: For the control rooms, crucial for continuous operation, we installed a Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRF) system. This choice, due to its flexibility and efficiency, allowed heating/cooling requirements to be met in smaller work spaces.

Efficient Cooling in Critical Areas: In the server rooms, we implement In Row systems between the cabinets. This strategy allows for optimal cooling by drawing in hot air from the rear and expelling cold air from the front, maximizing cooling power without treating the air, especially useful with high-density servers.

Result and reflection:
Our Sustainable Lesson: This project demonstrates that creativity and technical efficiency can coexist. By thinking innovatively about thermo-mechanical installations, we not only benefit the environment, but also lay the foundation for the long-term success of any building. This experience highlights the importance of adapting and evolving, not only as architects, but as drivers of a more sustainable future.
